The telemark World Cup opened last weekend at the Hintertux resort in Austria. Two sprint races were scheduled, but only one could be held.
Swiss rider Nicolas Michel won the lone sprint in 1:56.74. France’s Alexis Page finished second +1.22 seconds behind, and Norway’s Mikkel Nygaard Loeken was third at +2.46.
Andorran debutant Lucas Pagès did not finish. According to the Andorran Ski Federation, he misjudged the line on one of the jumps, ran off the course and was unable to continue.
“It was a race to see how we were after the two concussions,” Pagès said, adding that he had two weeks of training in “difficult” conditions that “didn’t help me much.”
The next World Cup round is scheduled in Pinzolo, Italy, on 19–20 December, with two sprint races on the program.
