Andorran rider Xavi Cardelús endured a challenging weekend at the MotorLand circuit in Aragon during the sixth round of the World Supersport Championship.
On Friday, a mechanical issue in the morning free practice session was followed by a crash at the start of Superpole, triggered by high track temperatures that affected more than 15 competitors. These setbacks limited Cardelús of the Cerba Yamaha Racing team to just one timed lap, a 1:55.590 in the final four minutes, securing 28th position on the grid for Saturday's opening race.
Starting from the ninth row, he crossed the line in 25th place in that first race, held at 12:30. Sunday's second outing, which began at 14:00, saw him drop to 28th.
Cardelús expressed frustration after qualifying, noting the team had gathered minimal data that would hinder their performance the next day. Following the weekend, he said: "We leave disappointed with the 28th place and the overall balance from a circuit where we hoped to turn things around and change the negative trend. It was not to be."
