Andorra Issues 183 Fines for Missing Winter Driving Equipment

Police and municipal traffic services in Andorra issued 183 fines for drivers failing to carry or use mandatory winter equipment during the required period from 1 November last year to 15 May this year. The figures, released by police, exclude Andorra la Vella due to a technical issue.

The national police force handed out 41 fines, with 28 going to tourists and 13 to residents. Most occurred in January (19 cases) and November (7), alongside instances in December, February, March and April. Canillo saw the highest number at 21, followed by Encamp with 7 and Pas de la Casa with 6. The remaining fines were spread across other parishes.

Municipal traffic services accounted for the rest. Canillo led with 65 fines—60 to tourists and 5 to residents—mostly in January (25) and February (29). Checks focused on Meritxell roundabout, Moles waterfall and southern Soldeu entrance.

La Massana recorded 51 fines, including two for motorcycles driving in yellow-phase conditions, which is prohibited. Of these, 47 targeted tourists and 4 residents, concentrated in January (34) and February (14). Key locations included Pal (15), Coll de la Botella (14) and Avinguda del Ravell (10), plus Erts, Caubella, Anyós, Sispony, l'Aldosa and other Massana areas.

Encamp issued 14 fines—9 to tourists, 5 to residents—spread across December, January, February and April. Eight were at Pas de la Casa, two on the new road, and others on local streets and avenues.

Ordino applied 11 fines between November, December and January—7 to tourists, 4 to residents—mainly on Arcalís road and Avinguda de les Moles.

Sant Julià de Lòria recorded one fine in January on a foreign vehicle at Carretera de la Rabassa. Escaldes-Engordany issued none.

Police noted that nearly all fines have been paid, barring a few pending cases.
