Catalan police have launched criminal proceedings against a 39-year-old Andorran driver caught speeding at 173 km/h on a 70 km/h section of the L-313 road in Torrefeta i Florejacs.
Mossos d’Esquadra officers detected the vehicle at kilometre marker 19.5 around 8:37pm on Monday during a routine speed check. The excessive speed prompted charges for a road safety offence, with the driver required to appear before the duty investigating court in Cervera when summoned.
This incident follows a separate case last Friday, when officers stopped another Andorran-registered car travelling at 180 km/h on a 90 km/h stretch of the N-420 in Batea, Terra Alta, at kilometre 790.4. That stop, during an afternoon operation on 28 August, also resulted in criminal proceedings for a serious traffic violation.
The earlier interception formed part of a heightened Mossos traffic operation over the weekend, aimed at improving safety on key routes used by spectators attending the Gran Premi d’Alcanyís motorcycle Grand Prix.
No further details have been released about penalties issued on the spot in either case, or additional information on the drivers involved.
