Andorra Activates Yellow-Phase Road Restrictions Due to Christmas Snow
Mobility Department mandates winter tyres or chains on key roads like CG-2 and CG-3 amid early snowfalls, with speed limits at 60 km/h and bans on.
Key Points
- Yellow phase on CG-2 (Envalira tunnel onward, Meritxell to Pas de la Casa) and CG-3/CG-4 from La Massana.
- Winter tyres or chains mandatory; 60 km/h speed cap; no motorcycles, mopeds, or e-scooters.
- Applies to French roads RN-22, RN-20, RN-320; heavier vehicles over 19 tonnes restricted.
- No current disruptions, but check official channels as snow continues.
Andorra's Mobility Department has activated yellow-phase restrictions on several key roads due to early Christmas Day snowfalls, requiring drivers to use winter tyres or equivalent equipment.
The measures apply to the CG-2 from the Envalira tunnel onwards and to the CG-3 at the Sorteny junction and Arcalís access. Additional sections now under yellow phase include the CG-2 from Meritxell to Pas de la Casa, as well as the CG-3 and CG-4 starting from La Massana.
Under yellow-phase rules, vehicles must be fitted with winter tyres or chains. Speed limits are capped at 60 km/h, and motorcycles, mopeds, and personal mobility devices such as e-scooters are banned. The department urges drivers to reduce speed on bends and slopes, avoid sudden manoeuvres, and maintain greater following distances.
The same equipment requirements extend to access roads into France: RN-22, RN-20, and RN-320. Vehicles over 19 tonnes face further restrictions on these routes.
No disruptions to traffic flow have been reported, but conditions may evolve with ongoing precipitation. Motorists are advised to check updates via official channels before travelling.
