Andorra la Vella Eyes Modular Car Park at Fener 2 to Bolster Parking Security

Andorra la Vella is considering building a modular car park on a section of communal land within the Fener 2 parking area. Local officials describe the plan as feasible, though it remains one of several options under review.

The initiative stems from concerns over the vulnerability of existing parking facilities, many of which sit on private land where owners could eventually opt to develop. To prepare for potential losses, the parish council aims to secure alternatives on publicly owned sites, prioritising speed and flexibility.

Proponents point to the recent Falgueró car park in Escaldes-Engordany as a successful precedent. Constructed relatively quickly using modular methods, it demonstrates the approach's viability for rapid deployment. At Fener 2, more than half the land belongs to the commune following a prior urban planning concession from the private developer of the adjacent shopping centre, making expansion there a practical choice.

Other sites are also being evaluated, including a plot once proposed opposite the government headquarters—now earmarked for the Espai Capital project. The goal is to maintain or even increase parking spaces amid future pressures.

No final decisions have been made. Technical assessments, cost estimates, and capacity projections are pending, along with input from experts. A specific timeline has not been set, but officials emphasise their commitment to developing these backups proactively.
