Andorra Approves Pedestrian Walkway Tender and Gender Equality Funding
Council of Ministers greenlights final 190m stretch of La Massana-Erts path for safer pedestrian links, plus €70k subsidies for equality projects.
Key Points
- Approved tender for 190m, 3m-wide pedestrian path linking La Massana and Erts roundabouts, with trees and lighting; 6-month build.
- Fourth phase of La Massana-Arinsal walkway (€1.7M total since 2023), from 2019 citizen vote.
- €70k subsidies for gender equality projects by businesses/non-profits; apply by April 10.
- €35k contribution to Ibero-American fund combating violence against women and girls.
The Andorran Council of Ministers approved on Wednesday the tender for the final stretch of a pedestrian walkway along Road 4 between La Massana and Erts, completing connectivity between the two areas except for the telecabina section, which awaits a future tender.
Led by the Ministry of Territory and Urbanism under Raul Ferré, the project will construct a 190-metre-long, three-metre-wide path linking the Bòvila Street roundabout—near Garage Costa and Hotel Paladin—to the Erts entry roundabout. It includes tree planting in planters and new lighting, with a six-month execution period. The design accounts for upcoming traffic changes from the Massana-Ordino bypass. Government spokesperson Guillem Casal noted that the work aims to improve pedestrian safety and ease movement on foot and by vehicle.
This marks the fourth phase of the La Massana to Arinsal walkway, selected as the winner of a 2019 citizen participation process. Since construction began in 2023, the overall project has received €1.7 million in investments.
In parallel equality initiatives, the government opened a public call for €70,000 in subsidies to fund gender equality projects by businesses and non-profits. Proposed by State Secretary for Equality and Citizen Participation Mariona Cadena, the seventh edition draws from the 2026 budget and coincides with International Women's Day on March 8. It supports legally established organisations in Andorra with efforts to promote equal opportunities between women and men and prevent gender-based violence.
Applications are available via the www.e-tramits.ad portal, with submissions due through the government's electronic headquarters by April 10.
Ministers also approved a €35,000 voluntary contribution to the Andorra Fund for International Cooperation under the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB). The funds cover Andorra's 2026 share in an initiative to prevent and eliminate violence against women across Ibero-American countries, reinforcing prevention for women and girls. It builds on commitments from the 26th Ibero-American Conference in Guatemala in 2018, a foreign ministers' meeting in Andorra in November 2019, and approval at the Ibero-American Summit in the Principality in April 2021.
