Andorran police concluded their Christmas campaign against drink-driving and drug-driving with 839 checks carried out from 11 December 2025 to 1 January 2026, resulting in 26 arrests.

Of those detained, 25 tested positive for alcohol and one refused the test. Three drivers involved in arrests were linked to traffic incidents: two causing material damage and one resulting in personal injury.

Among the detainees, 19 were Andorran residents, five tourists and two cross-border workers. The group included 23 men and three women. By age, five were aged 18-25, 13 were 26-40 and eight were over 40.

Blood alcohol levels for positive tests varied significantly. Eight drivers registered 0.87g to 1.20g per litre; 10 had 1.21g to 1.60g; five recorded 1.60g to 2.00g; with the two highest at 2.38g and 2.24g.

Authorities also issued 14 administrative fines to drivers with levels below 0.87g. This year's checks marked a decline from the prior campaign, which featured 1,248 tests and 19 arrests.

The initiative follows the Justice and Interior Ministry's action plan and supports ongoing police efforts to curb risky driving. Officers highlight such operations as vital for boosting road safety, cutting accidents and promoting zero tolerance for alcohol or drugs behind the wheel to prevent irreversible personal harm.
