Andorra Ski Boom Overcrowds Buses, Sparking Passenger Complaints

Increased tourist numbers during Andorra's winter ski season have led to overcrowding on national bus lines serving higher parishes and ski resorts, causing complaints from passengers inconvenienced by skiers carrying their gear.

Routes to areas like Arinsal and other pistes have seen sharp rises in ridership, filling vehicles beyond normal capacity—even outside peak hours—as skiers board with skis, boots, helmets, and bags in hand. Most buses lack dedicated ski racks or storage spaces, leading to discomfort when crowds build up: passengers report being struck by swinging equipment as riders struggle for balance.

A specific incident occurred on Thursday afternoon on line L5. Witnesses described a tourist standing with skis who fell when the bus lurched. At Prat del Colat—despite the vehicle already being full—more skiers were allowed on board. These newcomers also lost balance, hitting other passengers with their gear.

Such problems recur frequently, witnesses say, worsening in winter. They also note people with large suitcases occupying seats reserved for the elderly, alongside frequent stops that extend journeys significantly—such as from Arinsal to central Andorra.

Affected users have lodged complaints with the bus operator, which promised to forward them to the government. Riders are calling for alternatives, such as extra services or reinforcements, to address the issue.
