A couple of kilometres of queues at the Andorra–Spain border caused a major traffic jam in the Epizen shopping centre car park on Sunday, with dozens of drivers saying they could not even move between levels after hours of waiting.
Mobility authorities reported very heavy traffic on the CG-1 toward Spain, and queues exceeding two kilometres at the exit have completely blocked the mall’s evacuation during one of the busiest weekends of the season.
The congestion coincided with Black Friday, the switch-on of Christmas lights in several parishes and the opening of the Ordino Arcalís ski area, factors that markedly increased visitor numbers and contributed to the collapse.
Drivers attempting to leave Andorra and to exit the shopping-centre car park were trapped. Many users expressed frustration, and some said they had been stuck for up to four hours. One shopper’s parking ticket showed entry at 13:54 and, as of 16:56, they were still on the fourth floor without having started to descend; their purchase had finished around 14:00. Reported complaints included claims that the crowds were unbearable and that responsible parties were offering no solutions, with some tourists saying they would not return.
The situation is causing discomfort among visitors and workers. Mobility advised patience, warning that congestion could increase through the afternoon as more vehicles try to leave the country.
