Andorra Vehicle Entries Drop 7.9% in January Amid French Road Disruptions

Vehicle entries into Andorra dropped 7.9% in January to 311,242 from 337,881 the previous year, according to the Statistics Department. Officials pointed to repeated road disruptions from France as a key factor, though the steep decline in French traffic does not fully align with a major RN-20 closure that occurred only on the last day of the month.

French border crossings fell 24.2% to 65,794 vehicles from 86,821 a year earlier, with passenger cars down 25.6%. Spanish border entries declined 2.2% to 245,448 from 251,060, including a 2.2% drop in passenger cars but a rise in heavy vehicles to 13,702. Earlier preliminary figures had shown 63,878 French vehicles, but final data revised that upward.

Over the past 12 months—from February 2025 to January 2026—total entries reached 4,175,906, a 3.1% decrease from 4,309,976. Spanish crossings dipped 0.5% or 15,381 vehicles, while French entries fell 8.6% or 118,689 vehicles.

Seasonally adjusted figures show overall vehicle entries holding steady over five months, with January up 0.1%. Spanish traffic showed a slight downward trend over three months, ending flat at 0%. French entries gained monthly for four months, reaching 1.2%.

The release also detailed a methodological update for visitor estimates, using only smartphone signals from Andorra Telecom data starting in 2025, excluding non-human M2M signals. This prompted downward revisions for 2022-2024: 2024 now stands at 9,127,039 visitors, making 2025's 9,194,340 appear up 0.7%. Original 2024 data had reported 9,646,656. November 2025 saw 685,096 visitors (-6.5%), and December 768,866 (+0.2%). The change was announced alongside overdue November and December data, without prior notice. Vehicle statistics remain unchanged by this adjustment.
