Emergency repairs on the N-260 highway between La Seu d'Urgell and Bellver de Cerdanya, covering a 14-kilometre stretch damaged by ice, heavy rain, and snow since December, will take about three weeks and conclude before Easter week.
José Crespín, the Spanish government's sub-delegate in Lleida, provided the update on Monday during a visit to the site, where work began on 2 March. The €1.6 million emergency project targets the worst-affected section between Pont de Bar and Montellà i Martinet.
Crespín described the N-260 as a vital cross-Pyrenees link, carrying an average of 6,000 vehicles daily. Traffic rises to 8,500 vehicles in August and drops to 4,500-5,000 at other times of year.
The initiative forms part of a €4 million programme that also covers resurfacing on the A-2 motorway at Cervera and the LL-11 road in Lleida. A roundabout at Montferrer on the Pyrenean axis is scheduled to start construction shortly after Easter.
Drivers should expect traffic controls as teams work to restore safety on this key Andorra-Spain connection.
