Funicamp Funicular at Grandvalira Resumes After Two-Hour Electrical Fault

The Funicamp funicular at Grandvalira ski resort, linking Encamp parish to the Cortals area, experienced an electrical fault yesterday morning that halted operations for over two hours but has since resumed normal service.

The issue arose around 11:45 a.m., prompting staff to evacuate all passengers safely using the cable car's auxiliary thermal motor and manual electric controls. Although firefighters were initially alerted as a precaution, the call was canceled once the onboard systems proved sufficient, eliminating the need for external emergency teams. No injuries occurred, and Grandvalira arranged buses to shuttle skiers along the route during the roughly two-hour outage, which lasted until nearly 2 p.m.

Saetde technicians swiftly pinpointed the electrical problem and repaired it on-site with available spare parts. Resort officials confirmed the funicular was back in full operation shortly afterward.

Harsh conditions at the upper station exacerbated the situation, including strong wind gusts, low visibility, and damp cold. The stoppage inconvenienced users of this key gateway to the Grandvalira domain but caused no broader disruptions. Grandvalira emphasized the effectiveness of the funicular's backup systems in managing the incident without further complications.
