Spanish Civil Guard officers are investigating a 32-year-old man from Lleida over an alleged traffic safety offence on the N-230 road in the municipality of Montanui, in the Ribagorça region.
The incident involved the driver of a rental van who attempted an illegal overtake across a solid white line in a section with reduced visibility. The manoeuvre forced other vehicles to brake sharply to avoid a head-on collision.
A video recording from another vehicle proved crucial in identifying the offender. According to details reported by Ràdio Seu, the footage captured the van straying into the oncoming lane, confirming the dangerous nature of the pass.
Agents formalized the probe on 23 February after tracking down the vehicle. They have since forwarded the case file to the duty court in Montsó for judicial proceedings.
Under Spain's Penal Code, such reckless driving carries stiff penalties, including prison terms of up to two years. The suspect also faces a potential driving ban lasting up to six years.
Authorities have emphasised the severe risks posed by illegal manoeuvres that endanger other road users. The Lleida resident will have to appear before a judge when summoned in connection with the incident.
