A Spanish motorcyclist died in a head-on collision with an Andorran-registered lorry from a construction firm on the C-1412a road near Ponts in Catalonia's Noguera region, the Servei Català de Trànsit reported.

Mossos d'Esquadra received the alert at 09:41 on Tuesday at kilometre marker 2.6. The motorcyclist, the bike's sole occupant, failed to brake in time and was pronounced dead at the scene. The lorry driver escaped injury. The crash ignited fires in both vehicles and triggered a fuel leak from the lorry's tank, prompting seven Generalitat Fire Service crews to extinguish the flames and contain the spill.

Emergency responders included five Mossos patrols, a medicalised helicopter, and two Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques units. The incident disrupted traffic on the busy route toward Andorra in both directions from around 09:41 until about 14:00, when the road fully reopened.

Investigators continue to examine the cause. The death raises Catalonia's road fatality count to 20 this year, based on provisional Servei Català de Trànsit data.
