A Spanish motorcyclist died this morning in a head-on collision with an Andorran-registered lorry from a construction firm on the C-1412a road near Ponts in Catalonia's Noguera region, the Servei Català de Trànsit reported.
The crash occurred at kilometre marker 2.6, with Mossos d'Esquadra notified at 09:41 on Tuesday. The motorcyclist, the bike's sole occupant, could not brake in time and was pronounced dead at the scene. The lorry driver escaped unharmed. The impact ignited both vehicles and caused a fuel leak from the lorry's tank, prompting the Generalitat Fire Service to deploy seven crews to extinguish the blaze.
Emergency services mobilised five Mossos patrols, a medicalised helicopter and two Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques units. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
