A stretch of the N-340 road through Mont-roig del Camp in Baix Camp has emerged as Spain's most dangerous road segment, according to a new RACC study reported by Diari Més.

The analysis, which examined 26,470 kilometres of Spain's road network and 3,873 serious accidents from 2022 to 2024, gives this nearly six-kilometre section a risk index of 200.9—far exceeding the runner-up. With an average daily traffic of 2,319 vehicles, it recorded three fatal or serious crashes over the three-year period, driving up its hazard rating.

Overall, 11.8% of the network, or 3,122 kilometres, shows high or very high risk. While the national risk index has declined since 2010, this marks the first increase in 15 years on motorways and dual carriageways. Conventional single-carriageway roads per direction dominate the blackspots, claiming all ten of the country's worst segments.

Catalonia accounts for 201 kilometres of high- or very high-risk stretches, slightly below the national average. However, the Girona demarcation exceeds 18% of its roads in this category.
