Residents in the Valls d'Aguilar area of Alt Urgell have raised alarms on social media over the growing dangers faced by rural communities due to repeated landslides on mountain roads.
The latest incident occurred on Wednesday along a stretch of the LV-5134 road linking Noves de Segre and Taús. A rock and earth slide blocked the route, echoing a similar event last August when large boulders isolated several villages, according to reports from Ràdio Seu. Locals expressed frustration that "no one is taking responsibility" for the hazards, criticising warning signs as more focused on limiting liability than providing effective alerts. They noted that such landslides are recurring and warned that "at this rate, we'll end up regretting a tragedy."
The community called for urgent action on mountain road conditions, pointing out that poor connectivity and limited services are already challenging without added risks from deteriorating access routes. They suggested addressing these issues alongside discussions about regional rail services like Rodalies.
Cleanup efforts on the LV-5134 have wrapped up, restoring access. Work continues on a separate landslide along the Sant Joan Fumat road in Valls de Valira, where crews stabilised the ground and opened an alternative path on Thursday. Persistent water flow from the slopes remains a concern, prompting plans for a retaining wall and protective mesh.
Meanwhile, response teams are tackling a rockfall on the C-14 at Hostalets de Tost, where one lane stays closed with a detour in place to ensure safety. Authorities have not detailed long-term fixes for these fragile routes.
