Severe Weather Diverts All Flights at Andorra–La Seu Airport

Severe weather on Friday forced the diversion of all incoming and outgoing flights at Andorra–La Seu Airport, with aircraft from Palma and Madrid rerouted to Lleida-Alguaire and passengers transferred by bus to Andorra, Barcelona, or Lleida.

Air Nostrum's morning flight from Palma, scheduled to depart at 10:15 a.m., flew as far as Coll de Nargó before pilots diverted to Lleida, landing at 11:40 a.m. The afternoon inbound service from Madrid took off at 3 p.m., turned back near Oliana, and touched down in Lleida at 4:25 p.m. Passengers on both flights were bused to Andorra.

Outbound services faced parallel disruptions. Passengers bound for Palma departed from Lleida instead. Iberia's IB424 to Madrid, carrying 20 to 30 people and originally set for the afternoon from La Seu d'Urgell, relocated to Barcelona Airport. The flight left there at 9:15 p.m., reaching Madrid at 10:40 p.m. after 1 hour and 25 minutes in the air. Iberia arranged bus transfers from La Seu with sufficient advance notice, while Air Nostrum ensured assistance for those connecting onward to Madrid via Barcelona.

Airlines cited heavy snow, strong winds, and poor visibility—particularly in Andorra's higher elevations under an orange alert—as the sole cause. The conditions, affecting mobility and air travel across the Pyrenees, are expected to continue through Sunday, with no timeline given for resuming normal operations at the airport.
