Severe Weather Diverts Flights at Andorra–La Seu Airport

Severe weather forced multiple flight diversions at Andorra–La Seu Airport on Friday, with incoming aircraft from Palma and Madrid rerouted to Lleida-Alguaire Airport and outbound passengers transferred by bus to Barcelona or Lleida for departures.

The morning flight from Palma, operated by Air Nostrum and scheduled to depart at 10:15 a.m., reached Coll de Nargó before pilots diverted to Lleida, landing at 11:40 a.m. Passengers were then bused to Andorra. The afternoon inbound service from Madrid left at 3 p.m. but turned around near Oliana and landed in Lleida at 4:25 p.m., with those on board also transported by coach to their destination.

Outbound operations faced similar disruptions. Iberia's IB424 to Madrid, planned for that afternoon from La Seu d'Urgell with 20 to 30 passengers, shifted to Barcelona Airport. The flight departed there at 9:15 p.m., arriving in Madrid at 10:40 p.m. after 1 hour and 25 minutes airborne. Iberia provided bus transfers from La Seu with ample notice. Air Nostrum confirmed passengers connecting onward to Madrid via the Barcelona airbridge would receive full assistance. Those heading to Palma departed from Lleida instead.

The diversions stemmed from heavy snow, gale-force winds, and poor visibility, especially in Andorra's higher areas amid an orange alert. Conditions are forecast to persist through Sunday, affecting mobility and air services in the Pyrenees region. Airport and airline officials attributed the changes solely to the weather, with no resumption details available.
