Key Points

  • Truck slid ~100m backwards at 1pm near km 31.2 on CG-2 road during snow unloading.
  • Snow layer prevented injuries and major damage; stopped near Bullidor ravine.
  • Recovery using excavators and crane started next morning.
  • Worn platform prompts Encamp council's planned refurbishment for safety.

A snow-clearing truck slid approximately 100 metres down a mountainside yesterday afternoon while unloading snow at a designated site in Pas de la Casa, part of Encamp parish. The incident occurred around 1pm near kilometre marker 31.2 on the CG-2 road, close to the Envalira tunnel and the final bend before the Port d'Envalira.

Police confirmed no injuries resulted from the dramatic event. The vehicle began sliding backwards uncontrollably during a routine off-road snow-dumping operation. A thick layer of accumulated snow cushioned the descent, preventing the truck from overturning and limiting damage to a scare.

The truck came to rest lodged near the Bullidor ravine. By this morning, recovery efforts were underway, with excavators removing surrounding snow to clear a path. A crane was assisting to haul the now-unloaded vehicle back to the road.

Experts and the insurance company will assess material damage and determine the exact cause. The episode has drawn attention to the snow management platform's condition, where heavy machinery and salt use have worn down the asphalt and concrete walls. Encamp council plans imminent expansion and refurbishment works to enhance safety there.
