The Daily Mobility Survey for the Alt Pirineu and Aran, published by the Generalitat of Catalonia, records 4,081 weekday trips between the vegueria and Andorra and 3,554 trips on weekends and public holidays.
Alt Urgell accounts for the great majority of movements toward Andorra: 3,682 weekday trips and 2,671 at weekends. Cerdanya is the second-largest source, with 338 weekday trips and 599 at weekends. Smaller flows originate in Pallars Jussà (38 weekdays, 57 weekends) and Pallars Sobirà (23 weekdays, 171 weekends); the survey also records 56 weekend trips from Aran to Andorra.
The results are presented in interactive maps that show mobility flows at multiple levels — within each comarca, between comarques of the Alt Pirineu and Aran, and to territories outside the vegueria, including Andorra. Beyond volumes, the survey analyses trip purposes, public‑transport use and provides breakdowns by age group, gender and place of residence.
Mode‑share figures in the report indicate that private vehicles (mainly cars) account for roughly half of trips on weekdays, active modes (walking and cycling) represent nearly 45%, and public transport amounts to about 4.7% of weekday movements.
The survey is an official statistic produced by the Directorate General of Transports and Mobility. Fieldwork ran from 5 November 2024 to 29 January 2025 and combined computer‑assisted telephone interviews and online questionnaires. A total of 7,564 interviews were conducted with residents aged four and over across Alta Ribagorça, Alt Urgell, Cerdanya, Pallars Jussà, Pallars Sobirà and Aran.
The report also notes structural factors that shape mobility in the territory: the Alt Pirineu and Aran covers 5,775.6 km2 — about 18% of Catalonia’s land area — while accounting for just over 1% of the region’s population, a sparse, mountainous setting with population concentrated in valley towns and transport corridors. The survey’s detailed breakdowns aim to inform policies on public‑transport provision, shared mobility and measures to reduce reliance on private cars.
