Rail tracks impassable due to severe weather; services halted until at least Thursday with replacement buses

Train services between Foix and Ax-les-Thermes remain suspended due to impassable tracks caused by storm Pedro, the Ariège prefecture and SNCF have confirmed. The disruption will last at least until the end of Thursday, February 19, with reduced services operating between Ax-les-Thermes and Latour-de-Carol, limiting passenger frequency toward Pas de la Casa.

The prefecture announced the suspension on social media Thursday afternoon, noting that severe weather has made the rail infrastructure unusable. SNCF expects a gradual resumption starting Saturday, February 21, depending on weather conditions and infrastructure inspections. Replacement buses are now running the full Foix-Ax-les-Thermes route to maintain connectivity on the cross-border line serving Andorra.

Authorities urge passengers to check SNCF mobility apps for specific train impacts and adjust travel plans accordingly. The prefect has also called for caution amid ongoing yellow weather alerts for strong winds, heavy rain, and flood risks, including sudden rises in water levels. Residents should protect homes and property, stay informed via official channels, avoid non-essential trips, and watch for falling trees or debris.

These rail problems compound regional transport challenges. A landslide on the RN-20 highway to Andorra will close that route for three months, while harsh winter conditions persist around the Pas de la Casa border.
