Canillo Tops Andorra Winter Tourist Occupancy at 76.4% Despite Encamp's Lead in Establishments

Canillo has emerged as the leading parish for tourist accommodation occupancy this winter season, despite Encamp hosting the highest number of such establishments, including Pas de la Casa.
The Associació d’Empreses d’Allotjaments Turístics (AEAT), representing seven major business groups and covering 806 accommodations, released data on Friday comparing the 2025-2026 season to the previous year. Overall occupancy rose to 67.5% from 65.5%, a gain of two percentage points.
Canillo achieved the strongest performance at 76.4% average occupancy, up 5.5 points. The parish saw significant gains in December, rising 12 points to 81.7%, and in March with a 9.8-point increase to 82.9%. AEAT attributes this to high-quality skiing options and proximity to slopes. Monthly figures included 87.4% in January and 89.9% in February.
Encamp followed with 66.2% average occupancy and 453 apartments in the sample, marking a 3.5-point improvement. It posted a sharp March rise of 15.7 points to 71.6%, offsetting a slight December dip of 0.7%. Ordino recorded 64.9%, up 3 points, with February at 84.1%.
Andorra la Vella bucked the trend, falling 1.4 points to 56.5%. Declines accelerated late-season, with March dropping to 40.5% and April to 24.2%, well below prior-year levels. Arinsal also saw a minor overall dip of 0.6%, though it hit peaks of 92% in January and 98% in February; April occupancy halved to 20%, linked to early ski season closures.
AEAT describes February as the strategic peak month, aligning with European school holidays in countries like France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Peaks reached 98% in Arinsal, over 90% in Encamp, and nearly 90% in Canillo. April proved weak across the board, often underperforming last year.
The association notes Andorra la Vella’s ongoing slump since March and calls for monitoring, suggesting shorter ski seasons or early endings. Encamp showed solid March growth, while Canillo’s margin for further gains remains notable.
