Andorra's provisional consumer price index (CPI) for May rose to 4.9% year-on-year, up one tenth from 4.8% in April, according to the advance indicator released on Monday by the Department of Statistics. The figure awaits confirmation with the final data release.
The increase stems primarily from higher transport costs, particularly fuels. Rises in clothing and footwear, as well as housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels, also played a secondary role. Meanwhile, prices in the food and non-alcoholic beverages category helped temper the overall rise.
The monthly CPI variation held steady at 0% for May. Housing drove upward pressure, while transport acted to moderate it. This contrasts with a -0.1% monthly change in May of the previous year.
Andorra's rate remains above those in neighbouring countries. Spain's advance CPI stands at 3.2%, unchanged from April, while France's is 2.4%, up two tenths from the prior month.
