Andorra Unemployment Dips to 1.4% in Q1 2026, Lowest Among Neighbors

Andorra's unemployment rate stood at 1.4% in the first quarter of 2026, affecting 782 people aged 15 to 74, according to the latest Labour Force Survey from the Statistics Department.

This marks a quarterly drop of 0.4 percentage points from the previous period but a yearly rise of 0.5 points compared to the first quarter of 2025. At the end of 2025, the rate was 1.3% with 720 unemployed individuals, reflecting an absolute increase of 62 people.

Gender breakdowns show contrasting trends. Male unemployment reached 1.6%, up 0.3 points quarterly and 1.1 points annually, impacting 508 men. Female unemployment fell to 1.1%, down 1.4 points from the prior quarter and 0.2 points yearly.

The overall employment rate for those aged 15 to 64 held steady at 82.1%, covering 53.853 occupied individuals. This represents a 0.4-point yearly gain but a 0.3-point quarterly dip. Male employment stood at 84.3%, down 0.2 points annually and 1 point quarterly. Female employment rose to 79.7%, up 1.1 points yearly and 0.4 points quarterly.

Among the unemployed, 16.7% faced long-term joblessness of over a year, while 88.2% had prior work experience—one-third due to layoffs or business closures. Youth unemployment (15-24 years) was 6.9%. Only 24.1% were formally registered with the Employment Service.

Of the employed, 81.9% were salaried workers and 18.1% self-employed, with 11.5% on temporary contracts. Teleworking affected 12% of the active population, and 7.2% held multiple jobs. Average gross monthly pay climbed 1.8% to €2,817.7, with median pay up 6.5% to €2,408.4. A gender pay gap persisted, with men earning a €2,604 median versus €2,162 for women.

Inactivity affected 16.7% of the 15-64 population (10,944 people), down 0.8 points yearly but up the same quarterly. Male inactivity was 14.2%; female 19.4%. Salaried workers numbered 44,811, or 83.2% of employed 15-64s, up 0.3 points yearly and 0.7 quarterly.

Andorra's rate remains far below neighbours: Spain at 10.8%, France at 8.3%, and EU average at 6.2% in the first quarter, where those areas saw quarterly rises while Andorra declined.
