Andorra Inflation Rises to 4.9% in May, Driven by Fuels and Clothing

Andorra's inflation rate increased to 4.9% in May, a rise of one tenth from 4.8% in April, as confirmed Monday by the Department of Statistics.

The uptick reflects a continued upward trend at a steadier pace, with fuels and clothing prices providing the strongest upward pressure. The Transport category advanced six tenths to 12.4% annually, mainly from higher fuels and lubricants. Clothing and Footwear rose four tenths to 1.5%, driven by clothing price gains.

Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages eased two tenths to 3%, helping to temper the rise, chiefly due to lower legume and vegetable prices. Monthly price changes remained stable overall at 0%, though Housing, Water, Gas, Electricity and Other Fuels edged up 0.3% from increases in actual rents paid, while Hotels and Restaurants matched that gain amid higher prices at eateries, cafes and similar outlets.

Underlying inflation, stripping out fresh produce and energy, climbed to 3.3% from 3.1% the prior month. Petroleum product prices accelerated annually from 32.8% to 34.4%.

The Andorran figure significantly outpaces neighbors. Spain's CPI stayed flat at 3.2%, with Clothing and Footwear dropping to -1.1% from lower garment prices offsetting gains in Recreational Activities, Sports and Culture at 2.6%—boosted by less severe declines in package holidays—and Transport at 7.4%, lifted by air passenger fares. Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages in Spain dipped to 2.2%. France's CPI edged up to 2.4% from 2.2%, fueled by energy at 16.6% (with petrol rebounding to 11.3%) and services at 2.1%, while food softened to 1.1% and manufactured goods held at -0.6%.
