Andorra Telecom Prepares 3G Shutdown from October 2026 After 4G/5G Pilots

Andorra Telecom has entered the final preparation phase for a progressive 3G network shutdown beginning in October 2026, following successful pilot tests in La Massana and Ordino parishes that validated 4G and 5G performance without significant disruptions.

The trials in those areas assessed real-world network behavior and device operations, recording no notable incidents or customer impacts. Additional pilots are planned for the remaining parishes in the coming months to gather further data and ensure a smooth transition. The shutdown will roll out gradually by geographic zones, allowing continuous monitoring to maintain service reliability.

This upgrade aims to enhance mobile network quality, capacity, and efficiency. To minimize disruptions, Andorra Telecom is reaching out to businesses and high-traffic venues to assess and install indoor coverage solutions, targeting the same service levels post-shutdown.

Users with older devices reliant solely on 3G—such as legacy handsets or those manually set to 3G—could face issues, especially in low-coverage areas like building interiors. The 2G network, unaffected by the change, will continue supporting basic voice calls, SMS, and limited data on compatible devices.

The company urges customers to verify 4G/5G compatibility, enable automatic network selection (as some phones default to 3G), and check settings via the Andorra Telecom app under "Status > Mobile" for compatibility details.
