Construction of a new complex of serviced apartments for elderly residents in Sant Julià de Lòria is advancing according to plan, with the timber structure assembly scheduled to start in September.
João Pinto, from the Locubsa project team, stated to Andorra's news agency that building work began around 10 April after finishing excavation and site preparation. He noted the challenge of starting timber installation on 1 September, beginning with the first of three blocks before progressing to the rest. The firm plans to complete the development in under two years to meet operational targets.
Pinto highlighted the project's unique architecture, with volumes shaped to maximise natural light. The three blocks feature large south-facing balconies, which will bring ample brightness and a greater sense of space to the apartments.
The structure mixes materials: concrete for the first two storeys, stairwells and lift cores, while timber covers upper-floor slabs, balconies and other elements from higher levels.
The initiative, backed by Sant Julià de Lòria council, the Andorran government and private investors via the Laurus Foundation, will offer 54 serviced apartments for those over 65, plus a day centre.
