Andorra Electricity Demand Up 5.8% in July Despite Production Drop

Andorra's electricity demand increased 5.8% in July to 41,566 MWh, with imports up 15.1% to 33,747 MWh offsetting a 21.5% decline in local production to 7,820 MWh, according to latest data from the Department of Statistics.

FEDA customers recorded 27,839.2 MWh of consumption, a rise of 8.6%. Sector breakdowns showed distribution up 16.4%, other services 13.2%, financial services 12.8%, and hospitality and restaurants 9.4%. Ski resorts experienced the steepest drop at 18.5%.

Overall energy demand in tonnes of oil equivalent (TEP) edged down 0.7% to 14,336.5 TEP. Propane consumption surged 51.1% to 142 TEP and electricity 6.8%, while gasoline fell 5.7% to 2,981.8 TEP, automotive diesel 2.4% to 6,823.8 TEP, and domestic fuel 1.9%.

Year-to-date through July, electricity demand reached 345,820 MWh, up 0.2%, with imports at 248,454 MWh (down 2.4%) and domestic production at 97,377 MWh (up 7.4%). FEDA clients consumed 220,900.9 MWh, a 1.3% gain, driven by financial services (+7.1%) and distribution (+5.0%); ski resorts dropped 17.6%. Total energy use stood at 111,795.2 TEP, down 5%, with electricity the sole major category growing at 0.5%. Gasoline declined 5.3%, automotive diesel 9%, and domestic fuel 4%.

Over the past 12 months, national electricity demand totalled 584,806 MWh (+1.3%), with imports at 442,147 MWh (down 0.9%) and production at 142,692 MWh (up 8.7%). FEDA demand hit 373,671.7 MWh (+1.6%), led by financial services (+3.2%) and distribution (+2.4%); ski resorts fell 15.4%. Energy consumption in TEP was 195,506.8, down 2.7%, with electricity up 1.4% and domestic fuel 0.1%; gasoline dropped 1.5% and automotive diesel 7.4%.
