Andorra Electricity Production Plunges 41% in August Amid Rising Imports

Andorra's electricity production fell 41.3% in August from the previous year, dropping to 5,968 MWh from 10,161 MWh, according to data from the statistics department.

Imports climbed 13.1% year-on-year to 33,231 MWh from 29,381 MWh, while total demand stood at 39,199 MWh, a 0.8% decrease. Over the first eight months of the year, output reached 103,345 MWh, up 2.5% from 2025. Imports dipped 0.8% in that period, with overall demand at 385,019 MWh, up 0.1%. Across the past 12 months, demand totalled 584,471 MWh (+1.3%), imports were 445,997 MWh (+0.8%), and production hit 138,499 MWh (+2.8%).

Total energy use in August measured 14,948.1 tonnes of oil equivalent (TEP), down 0.2% from 2025. This reflected a 26.6% rise in propane, 4.4% increase in petrol, and 0.6% gain in transport diesel, countered by a 22.2% decline in domestic fuel oil and 0.1% drop in electricity. Through the first eight months, energy demand declined 4.4% to 126,743.3 TEP, driven by falls in transport diesel (7.6%), petrol (3.9%), and domestic fuel oil (4.7%). Electricity consumption was the sole major category to rise, up 0.5%. Over the last 12 months, overall energy use came to 195,469.6 TEP, a 2.3% reduction.

For customers of state utility FEDA, August electricity demand grew 0.5% to 25,862.4 MWh. The distribution sector rose 8.7%, other services increased 4.4%, but ski resorts saw a 34.7% plunge. Year-to-date FEDA demand totalled 246,763.3 MWh (+1.2%), though it fell 1.3% to 373,808 MWh over the past 12 months. Ski resort consumption through the first nine months dropped 18.2%.
