Andorra Electricity Production Plunges 41% in August Amid Rising Imports

Andorra's electricity production dropped 41.3% in August compared to the prior year, falling to 5,968 MWh from 10,161 MWh, according to figures released Monday by the statistics department.

Imports rose 13.1% year-on-year to 33,231 MWh from 29,381 MWh, while total demand reached 39,199 MWh, down 0.8%. For the first eight months of the year, production reached 103,345 MWh, up 2.5% from 2025. Imports edged down 0.8%, with overall demand at 385,019 MWh, a 0.1% increase. Over the past 12 months, demand totalled 584,471 MWh (+1.3%), imports stood at 445,997 MWh (+0.8%), and production hit 138,499 MWh (+2.8%).

Total energy consumption in August came to 14,948.1 tonnes of oil equivalent (TEP), a 0.2% decline from 2025. Propane use surged 26.6%, petrol climbed 4.4%, and transport diesel increased 0.6%, offset by a 22.2% drop in domestic fuel oil and a 0.1% decrease in electricity. Through eight months, energy demand fell 4.4% to 126,743.3 TEP, led by declines in transport diesel (7.6%), petrol (3.9%), and domestic fuel oil (4.7%). Electricity was the only major category to grow, up 0.5%. Over the last 12 months, energy use measured 195,469.6 TEP, down 2.3%.

Among state utility FEDA's customers, August demand rose 0.5% to 25,862.4 MWh. The distribution sector increased 8.7%, other services gained 4.4%, while ski resorts plummeted 34.7%. Year-to-date FEDA demand totalled 246,763.3 MWh (+1.2%), but declined 1.3% to 373,808 MWh over the past 12 months.
