Andorra Active Residence Permits Hit 43,155 in April 2026, Up 2%
Andorra's Department of Statistics reports a 2% rise in active residence and work permits to 43,155 by April 30, 2026, despite drops in new approvals. Temporary permits and certain professions saw growth amid varied nationality trends.

Active residence and work permits in Andorra reached 43,155 as of 30 April 2026, marking a 2% increase from the prior year, based on figures released Monday by the Department of Statistics.
Despite fewer new approvals, overall permits in force climbed to 59,997, up 2.4% year-on-year. Renewable permits made up 55,566 of that total, a 2.2% rise. Residence permits totalled 10,345 (+3.3%), while frontier worker permits stood at 1,966 (+3.2%, or 61 more than in April 2025).
The Immigration Service issued 1,284 initial authorisations from February to April, down 22.2% from the same period in 2025. Residence and work permits fell sharply by 43.1% to 515, simple residence permits dropped 12.4% to 352, and frontier worker permits declined 11% to 65.
Temporary work permits showed gains, with standard ones up 72.8% to 197 and those for foreign companies rising 9.4% to 116. Permits for research, studies, training, and sports decreased 9.4% to 29, including three for temporary frontier workers. In force, temporary work permits numbered 4,099 (+4.8%) and foreign company temporaries hit 203 (+4.1%).
Cancellations rose 27.9% to 284 over the period. Spaniards accounted for 55.6% of those, followed by other nationalities at 25.4%, French at 11.6%, and Portuguese at 7.4%.
Professionally, operators of installations and machinery, along with assemblers, posted the biggest increase at +84.8% (28 more), trailed by managerial staff in businesses and public administration (+39.2%, or 20 more). Support technicians and professionals fell 43.2% (minus 108), and skilled artisans in manufacturing, construction, and mining (excluding operators) dropped 30.4% (minus 75).
Of the initial authorisations, 515 (40%) were for residence and work, 352 (27.4%) for residence only, and 197 (15.3%) for temporary work.
By nationality, "other nationalities" led new approvals with 565 (44%), followed by Spaniards at 544 (42.4%), French at 11.1%, and Portuguese at 2.5%. Among others, Colombians topped the list with 108 (19.1% of the group), then Argentines at 101 (17.9%) and Peruvians at 58 (10.3%). Across all active permits, Spaniards held 43.3% and other nationalities 33.6%.
Among permit holders, 62.5% were aged 26 to 59, and 47% had been registered with Immigration for over a decade.
