Canillo parish council inaugurated a new 300-square-metre headquarters for its traffic service at the Casa Comuna on Sunday, coinciding with the Sant Roc festival. The facility replaces previous rented space and supports the unit's growth from 10 agents a few years ago to 21 current staff, including one maintenance worker and one administrator.
The setup features separate work areas, a training room, rest spaces, changing rooms and enhanced public reception zones. Officials said the upgrade matches the parish's evolving needs, improves internal operations, agent conditions and citizen services for traffic management and administration.
Senior councillor Jordi Alcobé, the major conseller, described the staffing increase as evidence of changing parish demands. He noted that it requires suitable facilities to strengthen this essential public service, ensure optimal working conditions for agents and deliver better attention to residents.
The 11:45am event opened with a mass at Sant Serni church, attended by locals, communal councillors, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Mònica Bonell—a Canillo native—General Councillors from the parish and traffic service head Víctor Sánchez with his team. The group toured the premises, blessed by priest Mossèn Ramon.
Minor conseller Marc Casal highlighted goals for "close, agile and prepared" public support. Traffic councillor Miquel Casal pointed to the near-tripling of agents over two years, which enables improved shift rotations, peak-hour coverage and overnight shifts with two agents on duty. He described it as a "major qualitative leap" in conditions and accessibility.
Sánchez, with over 20 years on the job, expressed pride in the facility's fit for current and future requirements.
Sant Roc celebrations, linked to the parish's medieval pledge against plague, proceeded with a floral offering, children's events at 6:30pm led by Gil Ratataplam at the Perecaus building, and an 8:30pm havaneres concert by La Petita Havana.
