Canillo Opens 300m² Traffic HQ Amid Agent Expansion to 21

Canillo parish council has opened a new 300-square-metre headquarters for its traffic service at the Casa Comuna, replacing outdated rented space to accommodate the unit's expansion from five to 21 agents, plus dedicated maintenance and administrative staff.

The inauguration coincided with Sunday's Sant Roc festival. The facility includes dedicated work zones, a training room, rest areas, changing rooms, and improved public-facing space. Officials stated the move enhances agent working conditions, service organisation and citizen support in a parish with year-round traffic demands.

The event began at 11:45am with a solemn mass at Sant Serni church, attended by locals, senior councillor Jordi Alcobé, communal councillors, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Mònica Bonell—a Canillo native—General Councillors from the parish, traffic service head Víctor Sánchez and his team. The group then toured the site at Casa Comuna, blessed by priest Mossèn Ramon.

Alcobé, the major conseller, said the staffing surge required matching facilities to maintain an essential public service and improve agent conditions. He stressed the value of owning the premises outright for long-term stability. Minor conseller Marc Casal underscored aims for "close, agile and prepared" citizen attention. Traffic councillor Miquel Casal noted that agent numbers had nearly tripled over the past two years, enabling better shift rotations, peak-time coverage and overnight staffing with two agents. He called it a "major qualitative leap" for work conditions and public access.

Sánchez, with more than 20 years' service, voiced pride in the upgrade for the parish's current and future needs.

Sant Roc festivities, tied to the parish's medieval vow for plague protection, continued with a floral offering, children's activities in the afternoon led by Gil Ratataplam at 6:30pm at the Perecaus building, and an evening havaneres concert by La Petita Havana at 8:30pm.
