Canillo Awards Pirinenca de Serveis €5.28M Waste Contract Over 10 Years

Canillo parish council has awarded Pirinenca de Serveis a 10-year waste collection contract worth €528,322 annually, part of a national tender shared across all seven parishes. The deal, totaling €5.28 million, covers household waste, light packaging, glass, paper and cardboard, and organic material, with tailored routes, schedules, staff, and equipment for the parish.

The service reduces collection points from roughly 450 to 300 to support more frequent pickups and prevent overflows, especially in busy areas such as Soldeu, El Tarter, and Canillo town. Cònsol Menor Marc Casal stressed that enhancing service quality drives the changes, not simply fewer sites. Implementation is underway in Soldeu and will extend gradually across the parish by year-end, allowing residents time to adjust. Features include progressive container replacements based on wear, a dedicated team for cleaning and disinfection, and digital monitoring of activities.

Costs exceed the prior €525,527 yearly outlay slightly overall, but drop markedly for residual waste (€297,823 to €233,317) and glass (€80,311 to €39,403). Light packaging rises to €85,948, and paper/cardboard to €86,887. Organic waste pickup for businesses is priced in but pending national approval linked to composting capacity.

Cònsol Major Jordi Alcobé highlighted improvements in service quality, tracking, and efficiency. In the same session, the council approved a €100,000 annual framework with CAPICSA—IGI excluded—for urgent water, stormwater, and sewage repairs starting this year, ensuring quick responses to issues like leaks.

The meeting also greenlit a €67,350 contract with Multiserveis Copríncep to upgrade Soldeu's playground for better safety and accessibility, plus a €20,000 budget supplement. Further, it endorsed a partial plan for 3,893 square metres at Boïgues del Borronet Oest along Carrer del Forn, creating five private plots.

Financially, first-half budget execution showed a €4.25 million surplus and zero debt, with €13.64 million in settled revenues against €9.39 million spent by June 30. The council launched a free WhatsApp service at +376 323 005 for citizen inquiries, issue reports, complaints, suggestions, and procedural guidance.
