Canillo Awards Pirinenca de Serveis €5.28M Waste Contract Over 10 Years

Canillo parish council has awarded Pirinenca de Serveis a 10-year waste collection contract valued at €528,321.75 annually, totaling €5.28 million. The national tender, shared among Andorra's seven parishes, encompasses household waste, organic material, light packaging, glass, paper, and cardboard, with customized routes, staffing, and equipment.

The new setup cuts collection points from about 450 to 300, enabling more frequent collections to avoid overflows in high-traffic spots like Soldeu, El Tarter, and Canillo town. Cònsol Menor Marc Casal emphasized that service quality improvements—not just site reductions—motivate the shift. Rollout began in Soldeu and will phase in parish-wide by year-end, giving residents adjustment time. Key elements include annual container renewals based on condition and breakdown frequency, a dedicated cleaning and disinfection team, and digital tracking of maintenance activities. Organic waste collection for businesses will proceed progressively, pending national composting capacity approval.

While the overall annual cost edges above the previous €525,527, savings materialize in residual waste (€297,823 to €233,317) and glass (€80,311 to €39,403). Light packaging costs €85,948 yearly, and paper/cardboard €86,887.

In the same council session, members approved a €100,000 annual framework—excluding IGI—with CAPICSA for urgent repairs to water, stormwater, and sewage networks starting in 2026, with similar funding planned for subsequent years to ensure reliability.

Cònsol Major Jordi Alcobé pointed to gains in service quality, monitoring, and efficiency. Other approvals included a €67,350 deal with Multiserveis Copríncep to enhance Soldeu's playground for safety and accessibility, plus a €20,000 budget boost. The council also backed a partial plan for 3,893 square metres at Boïgues del Borronet Oest on Carrer del Forn, yielding five private plots.

Mid-year finances revealed a €4.25 million surplus and no debt, with €13.64 million in revenues collected against €9.39 million spent by June 30. A free WhatsApp line (+376 323 005) now handles public queries, reports, complaints, suggestions, and guidance.
