Ordino Delegation to Visit Alps for Year-Round Tourism Strategies

A delegation from Ordino parish and businesses committed to Andorra's Biosphere Reserve plans to visit several Alpine destinations at the end of September. The group will examine how other mountain areas with ski stations and summer appeal manage year-round tourism while preventing overcrowding in natural spaces.

Jordi Serracanta, Ordino's councillor for Tourism, Dynamisation and Sports, said the trip targets territories facing similar issues. "We'll head to the Alps to observe how they handle populations like ours, with ski resorts and summer mountain draws," he told the Andorran News Agency. He added that the delegation seeks to identify practices for keeping destinations attractive throughout the year without massifying natural areas.

Serracanta stressed the value of adapting initiatives from comparable sites to Ordino. The aim is to gather practical experiences—or "inputs"—from places grappling with the same pressures. He pointed to social media's role in concentrating visitors at easily accessible spots, such as the Camí Ral trail and Iron Route. User-posted photos have spiked their popularity, he noted. "If you spot a really cool place where two or three people have snapped pictures, you end up going there," Serracanta explained. "Without any effort on your part, suddenly everything gets overcrowded."

Authorities have not yet specified the precise Alpine locations or delegation participants.
