Ordino Delegation to Visit Alps for Year-Round Tourism Strategies

A delegation from Ordino parish and businesses linked to Andorra's Biosphere Reserve will travel to various Alpine destinations at the end of September. The group aims to study how other mountain regions with ski facilities and summer attractions sustain tourism year-round while avoiding overcrowding in natural areas.

Jordi Serracanta, Ordino's councillor for Tourism, Dynamisation and Sports, explained that the visit focuses on territories facing comparable challenges. "We'll go to the Alps to see how they manage populations like ours, with ski resorts and summer mountain appeal," he told the Andorran News Agency. He emphasised gathering insights on keeping destinations appealing amid natural constraints, spreading visitors across seasons and sites without massification.

Serracanta highlighted the potential to adapt measures from these areas to Ordino, drawing on "inputs" and experiences from places under similar strains. He noted social media's influence in funnelling crowds to accessible spots like the Camí Ral trail and Iron Route, where user photos have driven surges in visitors. "If you see a really cool place where two or three people have taken pictures, you end up heading there," he said. "Without any effort on your part, suddenly everything gets overcrowded."
