Andorra Approves Extra 10-Cent Diesel Discount for September

The government modified hydrocarbon tax legislation to provide an additional 10-cent-per-litre refund on diesel, on top of the existing 5-cent cut, amid rising energy costs in the region.

Key Points

  • Government approves amendment to Law 15/2026 for 10-cent-per-litre diesel discount.
  • Total relief now 15 cents per litre on diesel sales throughout September.
  • Fuel operators must pass full tax refund directly to consumers at the pump.
  • Measure aims to protect purchasing power and economic competitiveness amid rising energy costs.

Andorra's government has approved a legislative amendment to deliver a new 10-cent-per-litre discount on diesel fuel, raising the total relief to 15 cents per litre for sales throughout September.

The Council of Ministers endorsed the change in an extraordinary session, altering Law 15/2026 on temporary measures against rising hydrocarbon prices. The reform entered parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday, establishing the process for a partial 10-cent refund from the special hydrocarbon tax on diesel sold this month.

The additional discount has been available to consumers since the start of September, added to the current five-cent reduction. Fuel operators are required to transfer the full tax benefit directly to customers at the pump.

This step provides legal support for the exceptional measure, designed to protect family purchasing power, offset fuel price increases and sustain Andorra's economic competitiveness amid energy cost changes in neighbouring countries.

Officials framed the action within wider government initiatives to lessen the effects of energy expenses on residents and businesses. They underscored a commitment to swift responses in economic challenges, with continuous tracking of fuel prices and potential further actions to secure purchasing power and national competitiveness.
