Querola Developers Vow to Rebuild After Fire Damages 40-50% of Andorra Complex

Developers of the Querola residential complex in Ordino estimate that a recent fire damaged 40% to 50% of the site, affecting five of its seven blocks while sparing buildings 6 and 7 entirely.

In a statement released Sunday, the promoters detailed their initial assessment, pending detailed expert evaluations and technical studies to confirm the full extent of the destruction. Of the complex's 52 homes, 20 escaped damage, but around 10,000 square metres of living space and 12,000 square metres of parking areas sustained serious harm. The provisional figure covers the overall urbanisation, with block 5 experiencing only partial impact.

The promoters reaffirmed their determination to repair the affected sections and finish the project—designed by Jean Nouvel and under development for 20 years—upholding its planned quality levels. "Twenty years of effort do not disappear in the flames," they said. "What remains is the project, the accumulated knowledge, the partnerships forged over time, and above all, the will to continue."

The blaze, extinguished after more than 36 hours of firefighting efforts, prompted a police investigation into its cause. The site remains cordoned off due to hazards such as damaged metallic structures, charred cantilevers and unstable elements. Local residents, long frustrated by construction traffic, now voice concerns over immediate safety risks.

Restoration will involve collaboration with government authorities, insurers, technical teams and contractors to assess each zone and outline required work. The promoters promised regular updates for clients and the public on progress and reconstruction phases.

They extended thanks to Andorra's firefighters and those from the Catalan Generalitat for their work under tough conditions to halt the fire's spread. Appreciation also went to police, Red Cross, Civil Protection, Ordino traffic services, the government, Ordino council and others who aided with security, traffic control and extinguishing operations. The team highlighted supportive messages from partners, suppliers and buyers, bolstering their resolve amid widespread public backing for the landmark initiative.
