Querola Developers Vow to Rebuild After Fire Damages 40-50% of Andorra Complex

Jean Nouvel's studio has reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding the fire-damaged Querola residential complex in Ordino, insisting the blaze has not derailed the long-term project.

Ateliers Jean Nouvel, in a statement to RTVA, described the damage as affecting 40% to 50% of the development. The firm emphasised that 20 years of effort will not be lost, declaring the fire "has not destroyed the project or the will to complete it". The architects pledged to enter a technical and expert evaluation phase to assess the full extent of the harm and outline necessary repairs.

Promoters plan to collaborate with authorities, insurers, specialists and contractors to restore impacted sections as quickly as possible, while upholding the original standards of the Jean Nouvel-designed scheme. They promised ongoing updates to clients and the public on repair progress and timelines, though no specific schedule has been set.

The statement echoes an earlier update from property owners, who detailed harm to about 10,000 square metres of living space in 32 of 52 homes across five of seven blocks, plus 12,000 square metres of parking. Blocks 6 and 7 escaped damage, with block 5 only partially affected. Full technical reports are pending.

A police investigation continues into the fire's cause, which started on Tuesday and required over 36 hours to control. The site remains closed due to unstable metal structures, debris and overhangs, prompting local concerns over risks.

Nouvel's team joined owners in thanking Andorra's firefighters and Catalan Generalitat crews for their work in tough conditions, which stopped the flames reaching nearby woods or buildings. Appreciation also went to police, Red Cross, Civil Protection, Ordino traffic services, the government, parish council, partners, suppliers, builders, buyers and others for their support during suppression and security operations. The studio highlighted messages of solidarity received since the incident.
