The Consell Superior de la Justícia (CSJ) will roll out a package of technological upgrades in December aimed at speeding up judicial proceedings and easing the work of legal professionals, the body has announced.
The centrepiece is version 6.4 of Avantius, the case-management system used across the justice administration. Its introduction will be supported by a training and technical assistance programme: online sessions are scheduled for 7–11 December, followed by in-person training and on-site technical support at judicial offices during the week of 14–18 December. Information sessions will also be held for judicial collaborators and legal professionals, with specialist staff on hand to handle issues and answer questions during the transition.
Alongside the new Avantius release, the CSJ will upgrade the Portal de Serveis Professionals (PSP), the platform used for electronic communication with lawyers, court agents (procuradors) and other legal operators. A new multi-device version of the portal will be presented to legal professionals and judicial collaborators, who will be briefed on the period during which it will run in parallel with the existing system. The CSJ plans to organise information sessions for lawyers and procuradors in coordination with their professional associations, as well as an online session open to other interested professionals.
During the week of 14–18 December, the council will also carry out live tests of digital tablets and the electronic notification system to verify that they work properly and to identify possible improvements. The measures are intended to make communication between courts and legal professionals faster, more secure and more efficient.
The CSJ said it is working on further projects as part of its broader modernisation effort. These include the launch of a new tool called Victorinox, designed to improve searches and the design of new dashboards for configuring Avantius, and the immediate introduction of biometric signatures. The council is also studying automated mechanisms to improve how IT incidents are managed.
In addition, it is analysing artificial intelligence-based tools to support judicial processing, with what it describes as particular attention to legal safeguards, data protection and the confidentiality of information. The CSJ stressed that these initiatives are at different stages of study and development and will be implemented progressively, in line with the functional, technical and organisational needs of the justice administration.
The council said the modernisation of its computer systems is essential to streamlining workflows, reducing administrative tasks and enabling smoother communication between judicial offices, legal professionals and other operators. It added that it will continue to push these improvements gradually, with the goal of a more agile, efficient, secure justice administration adapted to the challenges of digital transformation, for the benefit of both professionals and the public.
