A proposal to improve financial management for people with limited digital skills has won the first edition of MoraBanc's finance and artificial intelligence hackathon. The Veenty team, from Barcelona and made up of Andrea Gil and Óscar Barragán, took the top prize with a solution aimed at that group.
Organised by the bank with support from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Hive Five, the event brought together 65 participants across 28 teams and individual entries. Over 30 hours, they worked on developing innovative solutions to improve people's financial lives using AI. The projects were presented to the jury on Sunday, after the participants had worked at Hive Five's facilities with technological resources and AI tools provided by AWS.
Second prize went to the Andorran team Human Engineers, which proposed an AI-based chatbot for bank websites. Third place also went to a team from the country, Eventual Consistency, with an online payments and sales solution for companies and digital businesses. The winners received a cheque for 4,000 euros.
MoraBanc's head of artificial intelligence, Eric García, gave a positive assessment of the participation and the standard of the proposals submitted. He noted that the call exceeded initial expectations and thanked AWS for its technical collaboration and Hive Five for hosting the event.
