The Andorran government has launched a new tender for the second phase of renovating the former Casamanya hotel, raising the estimated budget to nearly €6 million to house the Environment Ministry's offices.
Announced on Wednesday, the tender follows the cancellation of the initial bidding process last week, when all submissions exceeded the original €4.16 million allocation. Officials reformulated the project with minor adjustments to measurements and budget items, aiming to lower costs while increasing the available funds. The revised estimate now stands at €5,912,666.50, including IGI tax.
A explanatory note details the changes, including the removal of several demolition and structural items, significant cuts to interior and exterior carpentry, and reductions in landscaping elements such as individual potted plants, integrated planters, and text installations on balconies and terraces. Other modifications involve switching from natural wood to high-quality laminate for some furniture and adjusting the elevator budget.
Government spokesperson and minister Guillem Casal highlighted these cancellations and tweaks during a recent council of ministers meeting. Despite the efforts to trim expenses, the project will require substantially more funding than initially planned.
The works carry an 18-month completion timeline, making it unlikely the ministry can relocate before the current legislative term ends. Interested firms must submit bids by 5pm on 17 April. Envelope openings are scheduled over two days: parts A and B on 23 April, and part C on 27 April.
