The eighth edition of the Concurs Internacional Cambra Romànica concluded successfully over the weekend in Canillo, drawing a record 85 musicians—more than double previous years—and confirming its place in the international chamber music circuit.

Held on April 18 and 19 at the Palau de Gel auditorium, the open-to-the-public event featured performers from Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, and Andorra. Organised by the Associació dels Amics de la Cambra Romànica, it spanned three age-based categories: Piccolo for the youngest, Base (14-18 years), and Advanced.

The Piccolo category stole the spotlight with 25 groups, largely thanks to local initiatives like Canillo's ACUCA association, the Conservatori de Música d'Andorra, Escaldes-Engordany's Escola Harmonia, and the La Llacuna cultural centre. Petit Duo from the Conservatori took first prize, with second place awarded jointly to Canillo's Quartet Camar and Brakilers. Trio Calavera won the audience prize.

In the Base category, Duo Eola 14 from the Conservatori dels Pirineus claimed first, followed by Andorran duo Do’s #. Winners received trophies crafted by local artists Mireia Vidal and Íngrid Forell, plus a joint concert opportunity with Escola Harmonia prizewinners.

The Advanced category offered the top awards: Magma Trio, based in Germany, secured first with €3,000 and a performance in the association's autumn concert series. Gegora Sax Quartet from Barcelona's Conservatori del Liceu earned second (€1,000) and the audience prize, while France's Trio Luz took third (€500).

Jury members Rosalía Gómez, Carjez Gerretsen, and Jordi Albelda praised the high artistic level across international entries. Around 600 viewers followed the final stages live on the association's YouTube channel.

Clara Pladevall, association president, highlighted the event's growth from a volunteer initiative, its role in fostering young talent, and opportunities like participant accommodation to build connections. Base and Advanced winners will feature in the autumn cycle, boosting their profiles.
