Andorra la Vella Hosts Multicultural Parade and Global Food Tastings

Andorra la Vella hosted a vibrant multicultural parade and gastronomic showcase on Saturday as the highlight of the Cultural Diversity Week. The events unfolded in Plaça de la Rotonda and Plaça Guillemó, drawing associations from nine countries to display dances, music, traditional attire and global cuisine.

The folk parade began at 11:30am from Plaça de la Rotonda, winding through central streets to Plaça Guillemó. Groups from India, Ukraine, Colombia, Argentina, Portugal—including Casa de Portugal and the Cultural Association of Residents from Alto Minho—Philippines, Russian-speaking countries and Ecuador took part, waving flags and performing brief dance routines amid traffic-free streets thanks to the launch of the 'Carrers Vius' initiative. Residents and tourists lined the avenues to watch the procession.

From noon, Plaça Guillemó hosted 'La Diversitat a Taula', where Peru joined the eight parade countries to offer affordable tastings of dishes like Colombian arepas, Peruvian causa limeña and ceviche, Argentine choripán, Indian pakoras and biryani, Portuguese bifanas, Filipino spring rolls, Ecuadorian torta, Ukrainian medovyk and Russian petushok piruletes.

Counsellor for Social Affairs, Youth and Public Space Maria Nazzaro described the day as the "main course" of Cultural Diversity Week, now in its 16th edition with 18 associations involved and around 10 gastronomic stands. She noted growing participation each year, with communities suggesting new activities, alongside events like the unveiling of commemorative tiles in Plaça Guillemó. "It's a day of brotherhood among associations from around the world in Andorra la Vella," she said.

The occasion marked the start of an expanded 'Carrers Vius' programme, running until 15 November on the third Saturday of each month along upper Avinguda Meritxell between Plaça de la Rotonda and Carrer Bisbe Iglesias, from 10am to 8pm. Cònsol Major Sergi González credited positive feedback from the first edition for the extension, aimed at reclaiming public space, boosting coexistence and supporting local commerce, with measures for mobility, parking access and emergencies. Decorated canopies now extend further along the avenue.

Culture Minister Mònica Bonell, consols González and Olalla Losada, Nazzaro and general councillor Pere Baró attended. Performances of music, folklore and dances continued until 6pm.
