Ordino's Fira del Bestiar Returns May 8-10 with New Heifer Auction

The sixth edition of the Fira del Bestiar in Ordino will take place from May 8 to 10 at the Plana dels Camps car park. Organisers expect around 100 animals across nine sections: one for sheep, three for cattle, and five for horses.
The event was presented on Monday by Ordino's minor consul, Eduard Betriu, and the councillor for Tourism, Dynamisation and Sports, Jordi Serracanta. It highlights local livestock farming and agricultural traditions while introducing key changes, including the first-ever auction of a Brown Andorrana heifer for consumption on Sunday, alongside the usual auction of two cows and the national contest and auction of Brown Andorrana males on Saturday.
A portion of the proceeds from the Brown Andorrana cow auction, aimed at restaurants, will support non-profit initiatives to boost consumption of Andorran meat. Ten per cent of the revenue will fund events such as last year's gathering at Port d'Envalira or similar projects led by Ordino council.
To improve access, a free electric shuttle bus will run between the village centre—hosting various activities—and the main fairground.
Saturday features the official opening at 10am, followed by sheep-shearing demonstrations at 10.30am, the national Brown Andorrana males contest and auction at 11am, cultural performances by Esbart Es Fadrins de Vielha at noon, and a concert by The Scarlett Brotherhood in the afternoon. The village centre will host a market with up to 26 stalls selling artisanal and local food products from 10am to 8pm, plus demonstrations of traditional crafts like wool work, metal jewellery, dry-stone walling and sculpture. Family activities include archery and pony rides throughout the day.
On Sunday, a popular breakfast open to all starts at 8.30am, followed by a tortilla contest at 10am, the heifer auction, a traditional parade with buner Albert Adellach at 11.30am, and a performance by Esbart Valls del Nord at noon.
Friday is reserved for school groups with guided tours of the livestock sector. Over the weekend, visitors can see a photographic exhibition on Andorran transhumance by Natàlia Montané along the route between the fairground and village centre.
The fair blends professional livestock activities with leisure to support the local economy and primary sector.
