Sant Julià de Lòria will host the second edition of the L’Ocell de Mil Colors inclusive walk on Sunday, 7 June, with organisers expecting to exceed 90 participants this year, up from 80 to 85 in the inaugural event.
Jointly run by LAUesport and the Hi Arribarem association, the event aligns with the Aplec de Canòlich festivities. Participants will cover the final 2.5 kilometres uphill to the Santuari de Canòlich along a route adapted for all ages and abilities, including those with reduced mobility. Between 40 and 50 volunteers will assist by pushing and stabilising adapted chairs on tougher sections, following pre-walk tests to ensure safety.
Joan Rossell, president of Hi Arribarem, highlighted the growing interest: the event gains momentum annually as people embrace inclusive mountain activities. He noted that the initiative stemmed from discussions with mossèn Pepe Chisvert about marking Canòlich differently, away from the official Aplec's crowds, to include everyone.
Hi Arribarem has long organised accessible outings such as ski trips and hikes to the Tristaina lakes. At the sanctuary, the day will extend beyond the walk with music, stretches, and group activities to foster enjoyment and community.
The event's name draws from a local legend about a brightly coloured bird frequently spotted by a shepherd near the sanctuary site.
Registrations are open via the LAUesport website at https://lauesport.ad/ca/activitats/l-ocell-de-mil-colors/ or by contacting Hi Arribarem.
