Andorra Hosts Four Concerts in 15th FeMAP Ancient Music Festival Across Pyrenees

Andorra will host four concerts during the 15th Festival de Música Antiga dels Pirineus (FeMAP), running from July 3 to August 23 across 36 Pyrenean municipalities in Catalonia, Andorra, and Northern Catalonia.

The lineup includes 50 performances by 23 ensembles in distinctive heritage locations. Advance tickets are now on sale at €17 general admission (€20 at the door), €14 reduced (€17 at the door) for FeMAP members, single-parent or large families, youths aged 15-25, and seniors over 65, and €2 for children aged 4-14.

Andorra's events span four parishes. Sant Julià de Lòria features two: a FeMAP Social concert on June 2 at Sant Germà church for about 70 people from care homes and day centres, and Cor de Cambra de Granollers on July 11 at 21:00 in the same venue. Escaldes-Engordany hosts Veneranda Dies Ensemble with "Els trobadors del Rei"—a programme of medieval song, dance, and historic instruments inspired by Occitan musicians fleeing to the court of Alfonso IX of León—on July 18 at 20:00 by Engolasters lake, as part of FEDA Cultura's Nits d’estiu. A guided tour of the Engolasters hydroelectric path precedes the free event, which requires reservations via FEDA Cultura email. José Hernández Pastor performs "Vivo contento por cruda beltà" on July 25 at 20:00 in Santa Coloma church, Andorra la Vella. The series ends August 12 with soprano Samira Kadiri & Ensemble Andalusí on the terrace at Hotel Rosaleda in Encamp—or indoors at Sala La Valireta if weather is poor—a pilot testing non-traditional venues.

The festival opens July 3 at La Seu d'Urgell Cathedral with Ensemble Barcelona Comtal's new production "Petites joies de la Catedral de Barcelona". Standouts include Gli Incogniti's "D’una exquisida singularitat" featuring Handel and Telemann, and Ensemble Joan March's reprise of "El primer Rèquiem de Montserrat".

Sant Julià de Lòria culture councillor Teresa Areny described FeMAP as uniting heritage, landscape, and musical excellence through collaboration between the government, communes, FEDA, and organisers. She stressed its role in making culture accessible to all ages and groups, including the recent social concert and this year's choral event in her parish. FEDA director general Sílvia Calvó noted the agency's long-term support and expansion to new Andorran sites beyond Engolasters lake. Culture Promotion Department director Joan-Marc Joval called it a forward-looking initiative linking early music to contemporary themes and venue-specific activities. Artistic director Josep Maria Dutrèn highlighted the Rosaleda pilot and 40% female representation among musicians and composers, a notable figure in classical music.

FeMAP Social delivers 24 adapted performances from June 1 to July 2 in elderly homes and social centres, featuring duets Anaïs Oliveras & Rafael Bonavita and Saioa Goñi & Guillermo Reyes.

Tickets grant access to over 40 free extras, such as guided tours, heritage walks, and museum visits, alongside six "Concerts amb Gust" sessions with local tastings. Tourist packages combine concerts and accommodation.

Since its 2011 debut, FeMAP has drawn national and international early music artists to unconventional Pyrenean sites, cementing its status as a premier summer cultural draw.
