Encamp Council Condemns Violence at Festa del Poble Festival

Encamp's local council has strongly condemned the violent incidents during the Festa del Poble festival, describing them as isolated acts that do not reflect the conduct of most attendees, including the many young people who participated respectfully.

The council, led by Laura Mas and Xavier Fernàndez, issued a statement on Monday morning following media inquiries about disturbances in the early hours of Saturday and, particularly, Sunday. It described the events as "totally unacceptable individual acts" with no place in the parish or its festivals. Officials stressed ongoing collaboration with police from the outset to clarify the facts and assign responsibilities, while declining to comment on specific cases to respect investigations and ensure legal protections.

The council highlighted the festival's overall success, marked by high citizen participation in a festive, family-oriented atmosphere of coexistence that continued uninterrupted despite the incidents.

On Monday, the opposition party Concòrdia also condemned the violence in a press release, expressing firm rejection of the acts over the weekend and offering support to General Councillor Pere Marsenyach, who was among the victims. The party, co-led by Núria Segués and Sílvia Mosquera, stated that violence has no place in Andorra's democratic and cohesive society, and no disagreement or circumstance can justify physical aggression. It called on society to preserve values of respect and coexistence, urging police to clarify the events and justice to act decisively. Concòrdia wished Marsenyach a swift recovery.

Police investigations into the incidents continue.
