Key Points
- Jordi Torres cites FIFA World Cup overlap and high summer heat as reasons for lower turnout.
- Recent occupancies have rebounded to high levels with excellent audience response.
- Hoteliers and restaurateurs praise the show as key to July tourism.
- Tickets still available, especially weekdays; motorhome enforcement underway.
Andorra's Tourism and Commerce Minister Jordi Torres has expressed strong government satisfaction with this year's Cirque du Soleil production Ràdio Andorra, despite attendance running slightly below last season's levels.
Speaking on Tuesday, Torres attributed the modest decline mainly to external factors, particularly the overlap with major international sporting events like the FIFA World Cup. "Occupancy data are not at the level we might have expected, but for a reason exogenous to the Cirque du Soleil," he told reporters. He added that high summer temperatures have shifted audience habits, with spectators arriving later to the venue to avoid peak heat, which can create an initial impression of lower turnout.
Torres highlighted a strong recent uptick, noting that occupancies in the last few days have returned to very high levels and audience response has been excellent. "The show is pleasing audiences tremendously," he said. Hoteliers and restaurateurs have conveyed their satisfaction with the event's operations, viewing it as a consolidated part of Andorra's July tourism offer. "They're already asking us to keep it going because it positions this month and seems inseparable from this period," Torres remarked.
With the season approaching its end, officials anticipate further improvement now that the World Cup has concluded. Tickets remain available on the official website, especially for weekdays. In a separate update, Torres confirmed that enforcement measures against non-compliant motorhomes have begun, with immobilization devices now in use under the Interior Ministry's oversight.
