Andorra la Vella council is exploring the possibility of hosting a major concert or event inside the Cirque du Soleil tent during next year's Festa Major.
Officials confirmed the Canadian troupe will return in 2027 under its existing contract, but its performance dates will avoid overlapping with the capital's main festival. This opens the large venue in the parish for potential reuse, similar to the Melendi concert held there on 7 August 2023.
The Culture Department, led by minor consoler Olalla Losada, is reviewing options to repurpose the space, following precedents from previous years. Councilor Sergi González, the capital's major consoler, discussed the matter with media ahead of the popular arrossada during this year's Festa Major. "First we need to see what availability there is and if it doesn't coincide with the Festa Major, then it will be evaluated. Costs and what can be done will also be considered," he said.
González did not rule out a big concert when asked directly, though no proposals are on the table yet with a year still to go. Logistics and funding will determine the outcome.
The comments came as this year's Festa Major wrapped up positively, with González praising the event's family atmosphere, smooth traffic management and lack of security incidents across more than 60 activities. The arrossada drew heavy crowds, selling over 700 tickets and nearly exhausting 1,000 mountain rice portions, with a queue stretching to Plaça Príncep Benlloch. The council again provided a climatized dining area at the Consòrcia del Centre de Congressos to shield attendees from midday heat.
The festival blended tradition—such as giant puppet parades, sardanes and castellers—with music from acts like The Tyets, Celtas Cortos and La Ludwig Band, alongside family and sports offerings. Officials noted separate discussions on festival models are pending after violent incidents at Festa del Poble in Encamp and Escaldes-Engordany's Festa Major, likely resuming in September.
