Canillo inaugurated the exhibition Seda i pedra: les esglésies romàniques de Canillo i Andorra on Wednesday, presenting a contemporary take on the Principality's architectural and cultural heritage. Local artist Anna Mangot created the works using paintings on natural silk, on view at Cal Federico through 31 October.
The display reinterprets features of Romanesque churches and chapels in Canillo and elsewhere in Andorra. Mangot draws a contrast between two materials and concepts: stone, linked to strength, endurance, memory, and spirituality in the historic buildings; and silk, evoking finesse, brightness, fluidity, and vulnerability.
At the 6pm opening at Cal Federico, speakers emphasized the exhibition's role in bringing Romanesque heritage closer to locals and tourists. The event underscored blending preservation of historical memory with modern artistic views, urging visitors to revisit these sites through new eyes and contemplate oppositions such as the fleeting and the lasting, tenderness versus power, and light against rock.
