Llorts Unveils Sculpture Honoring Andorra's Infrastructure Pioneer Bonaventura Adellach

Llorts inaugurated a sculpture on Sunday commemorating Bonaventura Adellach, a key engineer born in the parish in 1928 who shaped Andorra's infrastructure and skiing industry.

Toni Cruz created the artwork, which opened during the local Festa Major. Positioned to interact with Llorts's landscape, it incorporates symbols reflecting Adellach's mountain connections, including the solar mountain, sundial, solar calendar, and Arcalís peak. At its base, a shepherd tends sheep, paying tribute to the valley's pastoral heritage and Adellach's ties to primary sectors and nature.

Ordino's minor consul, Eduard Betriu, praised Adellach's foresight during Andorra's "survival" period, according to reports from the Andorran News Agency and Diari d'Andorra. He noted how Adellach's determination allowed him to study engineering abroad before returning to apply his expertise. Betriu credited him with driving the country's first modern roads and ski developments, including work with Joan Ganyet to select the Ordino-Arcalís site—a choice proven successful over time. He described Adellach's approach as rigorous and deliberate.

The event also honoured supporters of the primary economy and those devoted to Andorra, with Betriu urging a revival of such principled efforts to ensure balanced growth and greater wellbeing.

Attendees heard from Adellach's family and friends, watched the documentary El Pic d’Arcalís, la muntanya solar: un calendari natural, took part in a ribbon-cutting, and received a blessing from priest Joan Fenosa. It concluded with an aperitif.
