La Pitavola Mountain Market Returns to Arinsal for Sixth Edition

The Comú de la Massana will host the sixth edition of La Pitavola mountain market on October 3 and 4 in Arinsal's old town, marking the anniversary of the Parc Natural Comunal de les Valls del Comapedrosa with a focus on Pyrenean heritage.

This year's event revives the live construction of a charcoal kiln after a two-year absence, led by Roger Soler. Visitors will observe the full process from building and ignition to opening and charcoal harvest, while a half-built kiln nearby offers a hands-on educational display of the traditional craft.

Livestock remains central, with six local farms bringing around 40 animals—including cows, sheep, and horses—for a show timed to the autumn transhumance from high pastures. Comú menor Roger Fité called it an essential opportunity to value the area's natural resources, traditions, and mountain way of life.

The sculpture trail at Arinsal expands with a new ermine figure by blacksmith Jordi Illamola, to be unveiled on October 3 at the Comapedrosa park entrance. It joins existing pieces of the ptarmigan, chamois, dipper, alpine newt, and rock ptarmigan.

About 30 stalls will line the streets with Pyrenean crafts, produce, clothing, jewellery, homeware, and natural cosmetics. Demonstrations now include a wood carver. Taking advantage of La Massana's Starlight destination and reserve status, organisers have added a planetarium in the Quart building plus guided night sky observations.

Tourism, Commerce and Revitalisation councillor Mònica Solé highlighted the diverse programme for all ages, blending market atmosphere with crafts, products, and customs while promoting the Parc de les Tres Nacions.

Additional activities feature guided hikes adapted for families, wildlife talks, orienteering, fungus workshops, live music, and a tapas trail partnering with local restaurants. A mini-train will shuttle visitors from the village to the park entrance throughout the weekend.
