Ordino Launches Sixth Edition of Jardins d’Art with 26 Artists

Ordino launched the sixth edition of Ordino Jardins d’Art on Saturday, transforming the parish’s gardens, squares, and public spaces into open-air venues for contemporary art throughout the weekend.

The event features 26 artists in total: 18 competing in a judged contest and eight taking part in an artisan art market. Mònica Armengol, the culture councillor for Ordino parish council, opened the event and emphasised efforts to position visual arts at the heart of local cultural policy. She highlighted the direct engagement with creators, allowing visitors to learn about their inspirations firsthand. Armengol described the approach as offering a fresh, honest, and open way to experience artworks, set against Ordino’s parks and emblematic sites rather than confined to galleries or museums. She also stressed the value of aesthetic encounters, contemplation, and emotional connections in cultural life.

Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Mònica Bonell attended the inauguration and toured the competing artists’ displays. She expressed the government’s satisfaction with the initiative and its ongoing support, praising this year’s strong turnout and the tailored spaces provided for different artistic disciplines. Competitors are vying for three cash prizes: a top award of €3,000, a €1,000 ministry prize, and a €1,000 commendation.

Adding to the programme, the exhibition Donis-memòria by Gemma Piera—last year’s winner—opened on Friday at L’Estudi building and remains on view during the event. Piera developed the project at the ministry’s arts workshops in La Massana, a partnership Bonell noted during the launch.

The event drew large crowds from the outset, showcasing art amid Ordino’s natural and public settings.
